Newport Beach Gondola Ride

admin on Jan-5-2012

Over 800 years old, the gondola is a regarded as a symbol of romance.  Although thinking of a gondola may bring thoughts of Venice Italy, the gondola ride found in Newport Beach can be just as romantic when it comes to the symbol of romance. Once you sit in the black yet sleek gondola, you’ll be steered into the fairy-tale setting of the hidden canals beyond Newport Beach.  Most of the time, the individual steering the gondola will appear discreet yet mysterious, hearing nothing and saying nothing.

With this sense, the boat will almost appear to be moving by magic, gliding along with nothing to disturb the soft music.  Occasionally, you can hear the splashing of a fish breaking the surface of the water, which actually adds to the music and the tempo of the gondola ride. Wedge at The Beach

admin on Jan-2-2012

If you like to surf or hit the waves, the infamous “Wedge” in Newport Beach is something you have to experience at least once in your lifetime.  Although The Wedge isn’t classified as a wave, it’s actually a 20 foot plus battering ram that was created by sheer intelligence. The way it heaves, throws, and bends behaves in ways other waves can’t begin to comprehend.  If you look at it up close, you’ll notice that The Wedge is a combination of two waves that join together, resulting in a massive slingshot that is capable of sending anyone flying.

The Wedge takes a swell, but only for a few moments, retracting the swell energy from the jetty then smashing on the beach.  Though it may look like a “humping effect”, as the locals call it, the feel and look of it must be seen to be believed. For many years, The Wedge in Newport Beach has proven to be the best place in the world for surfing.  Over the years, professional body boarders have headed here as well, to test their skill and experience with the one thing that’s very hard to top.

Deadly at all tides, the best time to show up at The Wedge is in the morning or late afternoon, as this is when the tide is at it’s best.  With sizes reaching between 6 and 20+ feet, you have to be on your toes before you even attempt to tame it. If you plan to go surfing or body boarding here, you should also bring your camera, beach chair, swim fins, goggles, and insurance card!  It’s  always best to be prepared, which makes the insurance card great to have – especially when you consider just how powerful
The Wedge truly is.

The best time to visit The Wedge is the summer, as winter may be a bit cold.  As a beginner, The Wedge may be a bit too difficult.  If you have experience, you may even find it to be a bit psychotic.  At any rate, it’s a challenge you won’t soon forget. Nearby, you have many places to eat, such as the  Quick Fix and Worth The Wait.  There are also several places to stay as well, along with places to shop and enjoy yourself.

From surfing to sheer fun watching The Wedge pummel surfers, Newport Beach offers you everything you need to have an excellent stay.  If you enjoy surfing, you simply must visit The Wedge at least once and see if you have what it takes.

Summer Learning Activities For Children

admin on Dec-28-2011

During the summer, it’s important to keep your child busy and active even if school is over already. Although it’s time for rest, those two months aren’t meant for your child to be sitting around the house eating and playing video games. The best ways to get your child up and about are by getting them interested in an activity that corresponds to their interests and having generally fun activities lined up as well. Just because school is over, it doesn’t mean that your child has to stop learning. They can learn through various experiences as well during the summer. Sitting them down with textbooks and worksheets may not be the best approach. That is the strength of schools. A parent has other teaching strengths. Use those strengths to enrich your child’s learning in a way they can’t get in school.

Let your child choose some activities that the child will want to do along their own interests and hobbies. If your child likes looking at details and exploring, you can start a collection of sorts. For example, you can start collecting rocks, seashells, leaves, or stamps. If you choose rocks, you can go to different places looking at rocks and you can start to get a few from each trip. You can teach your child to identify what kind of rock it is and they will learn a lot while having fun. Read the rest of this entry »

Choosing the Right Recreational Sport

admin on Dec-27-2011

How do you know which recreational sport is right for you? Though this is a simple question, it may not have a simple answer. Before answering this question, it makes sense to define what a recreational sport is. In layman terms, a recreational sport is any sport activity or event that one engages in during leisure time. In other words, it is a sport activity or event performed primarily for entertainment and fun. Though in some cases there may be monetary rewards associated with recreational sport, it is not usually the main goal. Other reasons associated with participating in a recreational sport includes: fitness, health, socialization, competition and sport support among others.

There are several options of recreational sports available for all age categories ranging from indoor to outdoor. Making the decision on which choice to pursue can be a real challenge and this varies significantly from one person to the other. For former professional athletes, the decision may be easier especially if they continue participating in their particular former professional sports, only at recreational level. The big task of choosing the right recreational sport is however on beginners. In order to make the right choice(s) if you are a beginner, it is important to consider the following general guidelines: Read the rest of this entry »

Save Money on Summer Holiday

admin on Dec-21-2011

It’s here, it’s finally happened, the sun has come out, winter is a distant and dark memory, and it’ll soon be time to jet off on holiday. But for many people the coming of summer can cause worry, after all it’s a very expensive time of year, and holidays can cost a lot of money, right? Wrong, there are many ways that the average Brit can go on holiday and not have to worry about the cost of their trip. This doesn’t mean put it all on a credit card and worry about paying later, it means that you can actually save money on your summer holiday by following a few simple rules that are available to every holidaymaker.

Choosing where you want to go is half the battle, and once you’ve decided just where you’re going on holiday this year, it’s time to do your homework, get on your computer and find out when the best time of year to go is. For many people, the best time of year could be during the summer months, which is when the most popular tourist destinations will be swamped with tourists, which will mean the price of accommodation, food, flights and transfers will be much more expensive than normal. One way to combat this is to travel during the ‘off season’ which is another name for the quiet season, when fewer people travel there, so the prices of flights accommodation and other necessities will be much cheaper. As a rule the best months for this are just before the summer in April and May and in October, which is when the weather will generally be a little cooler. Read the rest of this entry »

All About Summer Camps

admin on Dec-20-2011

A summer camp is a program for children and teenagers which is monitored by either school teachers or college lecturers. Sometimes this program is organized by a public foundation also. In general it is held in summer season only. Summer camps are held for all age groups starting from 7 to 16.

These camps are the best way to give your child an all round development. Since they are organized in summer holidays the kids enjoy the holidays as well as they utilize the vacation. There are different types of summer camps according to the age group of the child. In these camps if a child is sent frequently as he grows up he or she will turn out to be an independent, self sufficient youth. This is the program where a child’s inner quality, his skills in a particular field, other than his regular studies is explored.
