Essex Beaches
Essex One thing is certainly not lacking is the beach. For many, many years Essex coast has proved a popular holiday destination for London and the Home Counties as well as to attract tourists from Europe and elsewhere.
For convenience, we have compiled information and resources for the majority of Essex beaches that exist along our picturesque coastline of the county.
Canvey coast
Thorney Bay Beach (Canvey Island)
This sandy beach is protected calm and ideal for families and a great day to relax. The beach is surrounded by large expanses of open grassland with picnic tables, playground and free parking. There is also a cafe recently, public toilets, which provides that all important cup of tea, hot meal or just a cold ice cream to soothe the rigors of the sun, rock and ball games sharing the turf. Picnics and pool are always a favorite at this beach.
All this and just an hour from Fenchurch Street Station in London, jumping through a bus and within walking distance.
The A127 and A13 from London and the A130 Chelmsford Canvey head to all. Otherwise, frequent buses from the station to drop you off at Benfeld areas a more lively waterfront Canvey – but it is only 400 meters from the beach gentle grassy slopes to take you to this little gem Canvey.
Labworth Beach (Canvey Island)
900 meters along the north bank of the Thames, you can choose a quiet place, or the most popular area of the beach and the promenade high or low, or paths Promenade cut the grass on the slopes in between. There is a coffee bar and snack a lot and there is also a set-top quality restaurant to Ove Arup designed a circular building called Labworth Cafe in Concord, alternatively, a snack bar cafe is located right on the beach. The park has steadily increased, and open green space with gardens and flowerbeds decorative sense. For children there are two large swimming pools with sea water to provide hours of fun with children’s playground, games and mini-golf. Times, has recently entered the top ten on Canvey Beach attractions in Britain. Come on Canvey seafront to enjoy the sun, is a family fun or just watch the world go by or a large boat on the river – is a really great British days out!
By car, follow the A127 and A13 in London and the A130 Chelmsford – parking is always available. Try to train in London Fenchurch Street Station and a short bus hop from the platform right on the beach.
Southend on Sea Coast
Southend on Sea has seven miles of sparkling sea ranges from Shoeburyness to Leigh on Sea. Along this unique stretch of coast, beaches are six very special.
Bell Wharf Beach (Leigh-on-Sea)
Very small sandy beach, which is very popular with families, situated in the east of Old Leigh, the area famous for cockle fishing and heritage. Shops, bars and parking nearby. Access is from Leigh, Leigh Old Town and the railway station is a ten minute walk.
Chalkwell Beach (Chalkwell)
It is a long narrow sandy beach with lifeguards refreshments, parking and volunteers on weekends. Access is Chalkwell Gardens, Western Esplanade and Chalkwell station is at the western end of the beach.
East Beach (Shoeburyness)
This small sandy beach with a mound of grass, a large car park, cafeteria, playground, beach shower and bath. There are also areas for water sports. Access is through the Esplanade and Thorpe Bay and Shoeburyness train station is only 5 minutes.
