Healthy Summer Holiday

Posted on July 26, 2011 | No Comments

I really get a break from the daily routine is not a luxury, it’s well-being needs. Here are some simple ways to enjoy your sense of adventure and get some recreational spirit of healing, taking good care of your physical body.

Start small: Get off the couch.

Time to kick this season and sedentary habits. Most of the summer TV is only replicas anyway, and the computer can not wait. Move away from the usual grind includes taking a break from a slow or even down-time that leaves you feeling lazy, but not really updated.

It does not matter if you have no big plans for a European tour or an exotic destination. If you have the right attitude and a spirit of adventure, you will find many opportunities to explore new and different activities, without leaving your city. Go to a local landmark or event. Join friends for a dance or art class. Partner with a neighbor and get out for a walk after dinner every night. Whatever your choice, make it your goal to incorporate regularly go out and do something else than sitting. After only a weekend of exploration, you can feel as relaxed as if you really take a vacation!

Performance of the summer: Free and awesome!

Maybe you’ve already started the usual couch potato and is a regular at the gym. No doubt, the gym can be a valuable resource in the colder months, but in summer, why not think about taking your heart? Back in town, everywhere I go when I can. Every weekend, even if I do a conscious choice to get out and enjoy nature. Think of it as a free, outdoor fitness, which keeps you in shape while filling your soul with the kind of sites, smells, sounds and surprises, no indoor gym can offer. Try it! You can see that, like me, you envy people who are warm, the climate can walk all year round.

What about a park or recreational area?

Most areas have some kind of public recreational use. They are great free resources in sports, biking, hiking, swimming, and just walk. Take time to understand what parks or other services in your area offers, and make your business to try.

Living in an urban area is not an excuse not to enjoy the outdoors. I like a simple “sport” for people in Central Park in New York! Remember to come prepared with good snacks. Sellers Park broke fatty foods and sugary drinks only dehydrate you faster and finally zap your energy. Personally, the water is almost all I can buy in stores. I have I never hungry, because I trust in nuts and other hard goods. Or it comes with a quick and healthy food that I bought or made and enjoy the beginning of my liberation, before it spoils in the heat.

Are you near a lake or beach?

If so, you’re really lucky. The rest of us have to drive or fly to see what you have next. Soak in a cool breeze from the water when you can benefit from all kinds of fun sports: kayaking, diving, canoeing, rowing, surfing and swimming are just the beginning. Just when your running shoes on the wet sand, instead of a treadmill can be a welcome change from regular physical challenge.

And remember, the spectacular water views, sounds and smells are ideal for creative mental exercise. A visit to the water may be source of inspiration for photography, drawing and painting, writing and music. Whatever activity you choose, remember to bring sunscreen, plenty of water, and maybe even an umbrella for some shade.
